What drew you to the Civint fellowship experience?
“As a student with years of experience in public policy and communications, I was eager for an opportunity that would push me beyond the traditional advocacy sphere. When I discovered Civint’s fellowship, I saw a chance to expand my knowledge by collaborating with seasoned strategists and applying my skills to high-stakes projects. The prospect of shaping real-world policy recommendations—while learning best practices from experts—made Civint the perfect fit.”
What has been your most impactful professional experience as a Civint fellow at this point?
“While every assignment has taught me something new, analyzing the new administration’s executive orders and guiding municipalities through their operational impacts has been the most influential. I’ve had to put myself in the shoes of local leaders, acknowledging that any change is challenging, especially within tight-knit communities. The opportunity not only to better understand this policy change but also to witness the dialog from officials was invaluable.”
How will you be able to take your Civint experience and translate it into your professional portfolio?
“In public policy and communications, it’s crucial to digest complex literature quickly and then distill it into digestible insights for diverse stakeholders. Civint has taught me to do both exceptionally well. I’ve also learned to identify nuanced challenges that leaders face as they strive to improve their communities. These case studies—whether advising on grant-funding pivots or shaping emergency response protocols—will be key highlights in my portfolio.
I have mostly worked in non-profit spaces, but now pursuing an International MBA, I’ve come to appreciate the power of public-private partnerships. Collaborating with both civic leaders and business stakeholders has not only enriched my understanding of how communities and companies can work together but also positioned me to drive innovative solutions at the intersection of government affairs and corporate strategy.”
What would you say to the next class of fellows that could help them get the most from the experience?
“Be curious and never hesitate to ask questions. You’re surrounded by professionals with decades of expertise. Make the most of every conversation. There’s no such thing as a “dumb” question when you’re striving to understand the “why” behind complex policies. Your willingness to challenge assumptions and seek clarity will accelerate your learning far more than silent observation ever could.”
